Scripture Study

February 2011 Workshop
::
Notes from How & What to Study in our Scriptures

Brother Jesse Ronnow“What you do depends upon how you feel about what you know.”
We are never forced to do anything in this gospel; it all depends on our own testimony.
No matter where we are in our scripture study habits, there is always room for some type of improvement.
Read with a dictionary next to you so when you don’t know a word you can immediately look it up.
Make a conscious effort to learn.
Idea* Get a soft cover BOM and mark through it just one topic. Underline anything that has to do with the topic you choose. Examples: Faith, Christ, Repentance etc.
1. Question- Who What Why
2. Predict- How will the topic you are studying change your life personally?
3. Evaluate- What is the scripture trying to tell you?
4. Connect- Like the scriptures to ourselves. Apply it. Make it personal.
Self
Text
World
5. Summarize- sentences, verses, chapters, individual words

Bishop Campbell
It’s not so important what you do, but that you do!
Color Code your markings
Give each topic a color
Faith-purple
Repentance-red
Baptism- yellow etc.

All his scripture chains start in the bible dictionary. Scripture chains help you study & learn.
Uses codes, such as AOC (attributes of Christ) or J (Journal) – very personal vs. to him.
Use Preach my Gospel as a study guide.
Christ & the New Covenant by Elder Holland –a great resource

1. Engage- become active & apart of your scriptures.
2. Ask What?
3. Wonder Why.
4. Look for patterns
5. We learn as we see others connect
6. Ponder- Put the Savior in EVERY Scripture
Our Kids may not remember what they read, but they should know that we love them, and that we love the scriptures.
Get in them until they get in you. Make the Scriptures your life.
